Unfortunately ICQ web server does not allow to send messages in automatic mode anymore.
We will need to redesign the module using different protocol (HostMonitor uses HTTP protocol).

Wow, giant bummer.. Just upgraded, saw the ICQ thing, got really excited, then it didn't work.

This would be a HUGE feature for me..

Any chance this is fixed in the beta or will be any time soon?

Thanks!

Sorry, we have not redesigned ICQ module yet. Always have some more important tasks to do... May be in version 5.70

I'm always amazed this isn't a more vital feature for people. Because I have ICQ connected all day at work, ICQ connected 24/7 on my Treo, and ICQ at home; having an instant message popup that a printer or webpage is unavailable is so much more attentive to me than receiving and email or SMS. *shrug*

I was a previous user of ServersAlive, and about the only thing i miss from that was the integrated AOL Instant Messenger alerts. I just tried Alchemy Network Monitor PRO the other day, and noticed it has integrated ICQ. I hope you consider re-adding Instant Messenger alert functionality Alex!

We have new module, testing it. But I am afraid ICQ is not very releable solution anymore. ICQ may not accept all messages that come one after another - some "anti-spam" function. E.g. if HostMonitor sends 1 message, it will be delivered. If 30 tests fail and HostMonitor sends 30 messages, you may receive just 12.
Module must make pauses when ICQ respond with spacial packets....

Jabber?

Post by sneader »

Alex, ICQ is broken also in the popular "cPanel" web hosting software. At cPanel, I'm told they are going to switch to using "Jabber" which is the protocol that Google Talk uses. Since I use Trillian, I'm constantly connected to Google Talk, ICQ, AIM, Y! and MSN... thus, I would not care what IM program you supported.

Perhaps if ICQ is too messed up, you might find that Jabber/Google Talk alerts are easier to implement?

Just checking in on this thread...

Yeah, I want to add that I'm not married to ICQ either. I'll use whatever Instant Messaging alert feature is eventually re-implemented. If it's Jabber/G-Talk, so be it :-)

Implemented in version 6.20. New "Send message to Jabber" action allows you to send messages to Jabber clients.

I tried to use it with gtalk (Google's chat, which uses Jabber) but was unsuccessful.

I set up an account at jabber.org, and YES it works great !!!

Thanks Alex !!!!!
