Hi Forum

What can it be that I have test with status unkown from time to time. In total I run more then 2300 test to system in the LAN and WAN. During the normal day the tests got in most times fine replies. But during the night I get status unknow from severals tests like ping, unc, wmi, etc. I don't use any agents to test the systems. One idea might be that the load of the servers is to high as backups and/or other tasks are running.
Is there any option available to tune this a little bit?
Thanks for any feedback

Best regards
Thore

I think Ping test performed directly by HostMonitor cannot return "Unknown" status. Probably you see "Unknown host" status? This means hostname cannot be resolved to IP address due to some network or DNS related problem (i.e. DNS server is not accessible).

For other tests, please check Reply field. Usually HostMonitor shows error description in this field.

Hi Alex

As I ping directly the IP i don't need any DNS
The reply is in most cases "Times out"
Maybe that helps..

Best regards

This means test did not return any result within 15 min.
Not sure how this is possible for Ping test, unless system hungs...

Could you please provide more information?
- What Windows do you use?
- Service pack?
- HostMonitor version?
- Do you use ODBC logging or ODBC test method? If yes, what ODBC driver do you use?
- Do you have installed some antivirus monitors, personal firewall, content monitoring software? Non stanard winsock components?

Regards
Alex

Concerning the ping test this is realy strange.
Also the 15 mins sound a little bit confusing. That means that just after 15 mins I should get the status unknow with reply timed out. But during this 15 mins other tests for the same system are fine.
Here the answers to your question
- HM Server is a W2K8 x64 Std SP2, tested server are all avaialable Server Editions from W2K3 Std (x86/x64) to W2K8 R2 Data Center
- HM Server has SP2
- HM Version is 8.86
- no ODBC logging but planned to use MS SQL in near future, just default html file loggin
- As AV we use TrendMicro Version 10.0

Could you try to disable antivirus for testing? Antivirus software often lead to various problems...
