Morning All,

I have upgraded the firmware on the Z-text modem as per Paul and Nigel's instructions. I am now getting text messages!!! but I'm still getting the following error in the log.

Sending...
Com port open .. Ok
GSM modem initialization .. Ok
Error: Cannot send message to 'Number'. GSM modem error. No reply on AT command: AT+CMGS="Number">Test message
Com port close .. Ok
GSM modem deinitialization .. Ok
Switched to Backup account
Com port open .. Ok
Com port close .. Ok
Error: Cannot send message to 'Number'. GSM modem error. ERROR was returned on AT command: AT+WIND=12

I'm also getting 2 messages for every test

one saying 'AT+CMGS="Number">Test message'

The other Saying 'Test Message'

Max unfortunately I’m unable to provide you access to the site due to the Policies of the Firm. If we can try to resolve the issue as we are doing that would be great!?

Can you recormend which Modem to use or is it a case of suck it and see... if so i'll get testing.

Cheers Darren

The AT+WIND is only for Wavecom modems, try changing to a Seimens.

The duplicate messages maybe due to the echo still being on in the modem.

Remember that the modem only works at 2400, the default for the other modems is most likly 9600

Darren, I think, you may disable Backup GSM modem. You just should remove Service Center number for Backup GSM modem in Options > GSM tab.
Also, could you try to specify Mode as PDU for the Primary GSM modem? What Modem type have you selected? I would suggest you try Siemens M35.

Max

Hi Max,

I've already disabled the Backup and i'm testing with the Mode as PDU.

The Siemens M35 is the next to test.... i'll let you know!

I have tried a few test here, the best modem type to use seems to be the Seimens TC35.

However, it still doesn't work correctly. When sending a message, the Z-text rersponds with +CMGS: 35 to acknowledge receipt of the message, but HostMonitor claims not to have received it. This may be a timing thing, particularly as I have had to do a bit of a software bodge due to my Z-text being on COM14 and HostMonitor only supporting COM1 to COM4.

Max, is there any way to find out exactly what HostMonitor thinks it has received?

Forgot to mention, I get exactly the same results using text mode and PDU mode.

Hi,

I have now gone through the whole list of modems and i get 3 messages on most and on the others I’m getting no Messages at all.

But getting an error in the log indicting the messages hasn't been sent at all!!

I'm running the Z-text modem on Com3 so i think that might rule out the possibility of a Timing problem Nigel has mentioned...

If it comes to it, I’m more than willing to send you My Z-text modem so you can test on... could be another sting to the bow of Hostmonitor to have the Z-text modem on it's List! That's providing this is also Ok with the NTS Telecom team?

Not necessarily, as your symptoms appear to be the same as mine. The only way to be sure is to monitor the data flow over the port. I use a utility called PortMon, it is available here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysint ... rtmon.mspx

The output isn't exactly easy to interpret, but it is certainly complete!

By default Hostmonitor uses 6 sec timeout for the character recieving. You may type COM14 manually in COM Port input box.
SMSNigel wrote:Max, is there any way to find out exactly what HostMonitor thinks it has received?
Ok. I will try to improve debug mode to log more information.
SMSNigel wrote:Forgot to mention, I get exactly the same results using text mode and PDU mode.
Some types of mobile devices does not support either PDU or Text mode. So, if you have specified device that does not support Text mode, it automatically switches to PDU mode.

Did you manage to recieve the message? What modem types are able to send SMS? What exact error do you see?

Thak you Darren. Great work! I think, I have a clue. For now, I would suggest you the following temporary solution:

You are using HostMonitor 6.42, right?
Could you try the following:
- add registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KS-Soft\GSMX, set DefaultRetries DWORD value to 1
- restart HostMonitor and test SMS function

With this option enabled, you continue getting the error in log file, but just 1 SMS will be received to your phone.
Sorry for the inconvenience. Update will be available shortly.

Probably, you should use Modem Type as Siemens TC35.

Regards,
Max
