|
|
Dear Friends on this forum,
I am an IP-Tools user, trying to understand why my windows xp does not permit me to use netbios utility, I have turned on the protocol in network preferences: "TCP-IP -> Advanced -> Wins -> Allow Netbios" and also on my firewall, opening the ports 445 and 135 to 139.
But the utility continues to say:
Code: | GetStatus (Machine : 83.225.132.227 Interface : xx ) .. Result : ncb_lana_num field invalid |
(xx as ANY interface number)
And it is an immediate reply, without ANY delay, I remember this happened on my last pc in some strange situations, but when the utility worked, it wait some seconds, and then replied some informations.
The odd stuff is that if I use netbios scan it works, it queries the destinations, but it won't display, as well, workgroup name, and/or computer name. Sometimes giving me the possiblity to connect to an "open" computer...
Why netbios utility says me error on interface?
I have found another cue: looking in the Informations utility I could read something strange:
Code: | ------------------- Local Interfaces (retrieved info by NetBIOS) -------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# : MAC Address AdpType SoftVer MaxDGSize MaxSessions Names
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Error: Cannot enumerate network interfaces
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
Why this message?
Please help me to resolve this puzzle.
Thank you for your precious support!

Do you use Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Home?
Windows XP Home does not support some network functions.

We did some testing, it looks like Windows always sends request to local adaptor.
Tried to find the reason for 4 hours, no result.
Interesting, it worked before....

NB Scanner uses different Windows API, that's why it works.
Will try to find some workaround...
