All,

I recently created a series of templates for the the text import feature Alex has in HostMonitor. They cover basic Windows 2000 service, port, cpu and drive space tests. I wrote them to speed up the implementation of HostMonitor on many W2K servers. It elimates the drudgery of clicking all the tests together. They are simple text files that you do a search and replace of text strings. Once the search and replace is done (takes about 2 minutes) you Just use the file import feature and the tests are created in seconds.

There will always be some tweaking after the tests are imported depending on the services you are running on your server. Watch out for the reverse alert tests. You have have to "unreverse" them but this is easy in the GUI.

There are scripts for a basic W2k server, Backup Exec 8.6, the Compaq Proliat Server Agents installed by Smart Start, and Exchange 2000. It saves a lot of clicking and the hassle of trying to match the display name in the Services applet to the shorthand name that is used in the registry.

You can post here with questions, comments, corrections.

Alex has zipped them up and posted them at http://www.ks-soft.net/download/import_templates01.zip
