VMware ESX

Hi!

I'm setting up a VMware ESX enviroment and is thinking 'bout installing the HostMonitor Linux RMA on the machines. Can anyone give me some info on this? Is this a good idea or should I keep the HostMonitor software only the monitoring machine?

I know that the Linux that is on the ESX servers is a special type of Linux - actually it's a virtual machine so...

Why not? Truth to say, we have never tested our software under VMWare. However, I think, you may install RMA on it without hesitation.

You just should ensure the following libraries are installed:
libstdc++
libm.so
libgcc_s
libpthread
libc
ld-linux

You may find these libraries at http://gcc.gnu.org/

Hi JuergenF

To be quit honest... I'm not putting the agent on the machines "just" because the answer from Max. (Sorry Max :) )

I wan't some other input on this - daily experience would be prefered - before I will try it on my machines.

Hope both of you understand.


Soo.. ANYONE OUT THERE (running ESX 3.0) - comments, please.

What would you like to run under ESX ?
- The HostMonitor Server or one of the agents ?
- How many tests will be run from the ESX ?

We tried the HM Server (Windows 2000) under GSX with 850 tests and ServersAlive.

We had performance problems with that - maybe with Servers Alive Application.

But running an Agent with a few tests is no problem

Okay... now we're talking :lol:

I only wan't to run the agent on the servers to get "inside" information on the logs, the CPU usage, the drive space and so on...

Load will be no problem from my pov.
The only thing is to think about ESX support - do they allow additional software ?
