Unable to start script. A required privilege is not held ...

Post by BoschmanIT »

Hi All,

I hope you can help me understand something a bit better. I try to run a powershell shell script test against one of my servers. The script runs fine and returns the proper result. When I create the shell script test and select the script I want to run, HM returns "Error: Unable to start script. A required privilege is not held by the client".

So I checked all the UAC off on the HM and the target server. HM service runs under a service account which as all local admin rights on the target server. Also the target server is taken up into connection manager with again the same service account.

The most strange thing is, from the shell script manager I can run a test of the script. This test runs just fine and also gives me the desired outcome. What can I do about this?

Because you are using RCC started as application, right?

Please make sure "Replace process level token" privilege assigned to the account (necessary for Shell Script, External test, Execute external program action).

You are absolutely right about that.

I did that on the HM server and on the target server but still the outcome is the same. Any other suggestions? :)

Kind regards,

Hi Alex,

I indeed did this for the account which is used by the HM Service. HM Server is the following;
Windows Version: Windows Server 2019 STD with latest updates
HostMonitor version: 12.98

Target server is the following;
Windows Version: Windows Server 2016 STD with latest updates

This error is not related to remote system.

We cannot reproduce the problem on Windows Server 2019 STD with latest updates.
Have you restarted HostMonitor service after account modification?

Hi Alex,

The restart of the service was the missing link. I didn't think it would matter that much. But I was wrong. Thank you for the support.
