Help needed for oracle data base checking ;)

Post by Gilali »

Hi everybody,

I have some troubles with "checking oracle server".

In our company, we have some oracle data base to check. I've installed oracle client, and verify content of tns.ora, and it is completed.

When i try to do connection test on one database, I have nothing returning from host monitor. I have only "oracle name data base" not tested, that all.
If someone can help me, I will appreciate.

Thanks for your help.

Do you mean test status is "Not tested"? This means either
- somebody stopped monitoring. If you see "Start" button on toolbar, click it to resume monitoring
- you have setup more test items than allowed by your license

First of all, Thank you for your reply, Alex.

You say me :

"- somebody stopped monitoring. "

I don't think, because I'm in charge of monitoring in our company, and when I am working on, nobody can't access it, and this test has been done at this time.

" you have setup more test items".

Perhaps, but can you tell me how I see How many test items we have in our license.

Best regards

Do you see "Start" button on tool bar or not?
and this test has been done at this time.
Not sure I understand. Do you mean everything works fine now?
Perhaps, but can you tell me how I see How many test items we have in our license.
There are several possible solutions
1) click menu Help->License
2) find e-mail from sales@ks-soft.net that you have received after your order was processed
3) send request to sales@ks-soft.net and ask details regarding your license

Hi Alex,

I'm in my office now, and I have full control of host monitor server.(yes, start is on toolbar).

By the way, I can make 20 000 000 tests!!! ;) I think that I have enough licenses ;-)

All tests that I monitor work fine( ping, ldap, dns, ftp, free spaces on hards disk, ......), only oracle database test fails.

For all tests, I have "host is alive" or "OK" in Status column.

Only for this oracle test I have "not tested" in Status.

When I change tns name with a false name, and push "test" button, Host Monitor work fine and return me an error :"Oracle error #12154 : ORA-12154 : TNS:could not resolve the connect identifer specified".
When i put a correct name in tns, i have nothing when I push on test button. no message and it state is always "not tested".

I have questions about this kind of test :

- What kind of Oracle user must I use to do this test.(Actually, I have a user on grant access only).

- Oracle client is installed, tns.ora is correctly completed and oci.dll is installed correctly !!!
Did I forget something in this configuration ?

Thanks for your help, Alex.

Best regards.

Gilali.

yes, start is on toolbar
This means monitoring is stopped. Please click "Start" button to resume monitoring.
Note 2: If several persons have access to HostMonitor, you may delegate different set of rights for each operator. E.g. you may provide "start/stop monitoring" permission to single person.

All tests that I monitor work fine
I don't think any of your tests are working. If monitoring is stopped, HostMonitor does not perform any tests.
For all tests, I have "host is alive" or "OK" in Status column
You may check "Last test time" field to find out when test was performed.
What kind of Oracle user must I use to do this test.(Actually, I have a user on grant access only).
Any user. HostMonitor just connects and logs in to the server. It does not send some special requests.

Hi Alex,

You have totally right. :-)

Somebody has stopped HostMonitor and I don't see it. Sorry

When I start again host monitor, all tests are ok, even oracle database test.

Thanks a lot for your help, it's very nice.
