Monitor IPSEC SA (tunnel) in Windows 2003

Post by jromariz »

Hi,

I would like to monitor if a certain IPSEC SA (or tunnel) is up in a Windows 2003 serving as VPN endpoint. Any ideas on how to do it?

Thanks for any help.

If system where HostMonitor is installed can use this channel, then what about simple ping test? or you want to monitor some performance/security parameters?

Hi Alex,

Nice to hear from you. It is not possible to system where hostmonitor is to use this channel, it must be some command or script on the VPN server (Windows 2003).

Thanks for helping.

Ok, lets assume there is such command (actually there is ping.exe, it can check target and return error code depending on result).
Question is: how do you plan to start that command and send result to HostMonitor? HostMonitor does not execute applications on remote system. This means you need to install RMA. If you install RMA on that server, why do you need some special command?
IMHO You may use RMA and Ping test

Alex,

Your idea makes sense. Let me think and do some testing. I´ll post the results here.

Once again thanks for helping.
