I am concerned that my instance of Host Monitor may be down, and I would not know it. I think the best way to solve this is to have it monitored remotely.

I am wondering if there are a couple of you out there that would be willing to do a "monitoring exchange". If you will monitor mine, I will monitor yours.

Or is there a better way?

It may be possible to monitor via another Windows server, so thank you for the reminder about WatchDog.

I am still interested in talking with other fellow users about cooperation on monitoring.
