All questions related to installations, configurations and maintenance of Advanced Host Monitor (including additional tools such as RMA for Windows, RMA Manager, Web Servie, RCC).
I am currently running HostMonitor version 8.82 and am trying to monitor the URL for a sharepoint server that uses NTLM for authentication. It seems that if I run HM as an application (rather than a service) it works just fine, but when I run HM as a service it does not. The status for the test simply returns the result “bad”.
If I stop the service and run HM, then its back to working again, is this a bug? Is there any fix?
Do you use URL or HTTP test method?
What Windows do you use? Service Pack?
Have you specified account with admin rights using options located on Service page in HostMonitor Options dialog?
I am using the URL test method.
Windows 2003 service pack 2
Yes, I have specified an account with domain admins privileges.
Like I said when HM is running as an application the very same test works fine. It only error when I try to run it as a service.
Yes, we can reproduce the problem - HostMonitor started on Windows 2008 as service cannot check web site with NTLM authentication. While HostMonitor started as application on Windows 2008 or HostMonitor started as service or application on Windows 2003 works fine.
The problem - we cannot find the reason why it does not work. As I remember it worked before, we checked all test methods on all versions of Windows.
May be some Windows security patch leads to the problem. Will try to find explanation in Microsoft bulletins...
Looks like solution is simple - using account with local admin rights fixes the problem.
Do you use account that belongs to domain admins but not not local admin?
