Send Mail alert does not work

Post by Eddie Lui »

HostMonitor 9.58

Mailer setting:
Primary SMTP Server
Address: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
TLS: Implicit
Auth:Cram-MD5
Login: GmailAccount@gmail.com
Password: My GmailAccount password

Mail Profile: Use default Mail to admin profile

Action profile:
Name: Send e-mail alert
From: GmailAccount@gmail.com
To: Mycompanyemail@company.com
Subject: Host1 Failure Alert
Body template: Mail to admin

I put the action profile under alert of my test. I trigger a failure of the test. The test fails as seen from console. However, I never received any failure message in my company email account.

How can I troubleshoot the mail delivery from HostMonitor. I seems I can't find anything related in system log and Log Viewer.

Thanks
Eddie

Please use Auth: Plain
instead of Auth:Cram-MD5
(Menu Options -> Mailer settings)

Also, I would recommend to read the following article that helps to solve action related problems:

Are there any ways to check the Send mail log?
I see a number of threads that membes posting the SMTP log when send-mail action runs.

The following thread is an example

How can I get this log to troubleshoot?

You may check either
- Quick Log pane (it may show action results as well);
- system log file (specified on System Log page in HostMonitor Options dialog);
- Auditing Tool (menu View)

If you want to see entire HostMonitor<->SNMP server communication, start HostMonitor as application and trigger the action, you will see popup window on screen (make sure "Show status window when sending mail" option is enabled - option located on Mailer Settings page in HostMonitor Options dialog).
