How to monitor specific process ?

Post by marttali »

Hi,

what i would like to do is monitor specific process on remote server (Server 2003) and alert me when it uses more that say 50% of cpu ?

It's Citrix application server and many instances of same process running, belonging to different users.

Tried dominant process test - loads of false alerts came.

It's Citrix application server and many instances of same process running, belonging to different users.
I assume you want to monitor all instances of this process? And receive alert when ANY of this instance uses over 50% CPU?
Then I would use Dominant Process test. If some other processes may use over 50% CPU and you want to ignore this, use "Exclude processes" test option.
Tried dominant process test - loads of false alerts came.
What exactly means "false alerts"?

Way too many alerts came and none concerning the process i'm interested in.
Excluding all the other process seems like a lot of work (several dozens)..

Maybe in the future you could change the test a bit and add another setup box to the dominant process test where i can select just a process i'm interested in.
