Test for server fax

Post by clerevan »

Hi Hostmonitor,

So I want to monitor my fax server through hostmonitor, i have already make several using service test, the only problem is, sometimes, when the fax server is really busy then the test will result failed even though the server isn't down or the ping test still work perfectly. Do you have any other method to do the fax service test else then service? and what kind of service is important for fax? as for now i trst for, fax, telephony, rpc, and spooler.

thank you :D

If Fax service is sometimes busy, you may use "Repeat test" action and modify/set "Condition to start action" for alert to Start when 2 consecutive "Bad" results occur.
You may also use NT Event log test to monitor Fax service events.
Fax service events are written to log/channel: Application Source: Microsoft Fax
Please check for the following MS article that describes some Fax service NT Event IDs:

Hello KS-soft, thank you for replying, well the problem is, when we tried to monitor that service, because the line is too busy, the service keep going down, and we don't know which event NT error that make that service down, that's why could you give any suggestion so i can look the status of the test at that specific time from hostmonitor.

Let's just say: I want to know what status of the service test in hostmonitor exactly at 5 p.m. March 25th, last tuesday, because i receive some error in nt event log at 5p.p. March 25th, at the same time. Could know that information from hostmonitor?

Sorry, I do not understand - do you want to check Windows Service or you want to check NT Event Log records?
when we tried to monitor that service, because the line is too busy, the service keep going down, and we don't know which event NT error that make that service down
Do you mean FAX service crashes because some event was added into log?? This does not make any sense, I don't think FAX service even checks event log.
May be service crashes for some other reason and records some event into NT Event Log during crash? And you want to monitor event log for such record? Then you may simply check the log and find out what error was recorded by fax service...

No Alex,

Here is the things, I want to monitor whether my fax service is working correctly or not. I have made a test through ping, RDP port, and service tests. Somehow, my ping and RDP port test is working well, but my service tests keep sending failed result so I can't monitor its fax and spooler services.

And yes, right now we are testing some test for NT event log, and it's work but still give me some unanswered question.

1. So I got event ID 32017 warning at 7.13 PM and 7.30 PM consecutively, and any other warning after that
My hostmonitor send bad notification at 7.19 PM(which mean it's a notification for event ID warning at 7.13 PM) and I receive message it changed to good at 7.27.

But I didn't receive any other notification for 7.30 PM or any other warning after that. I set my test to test every 10 minute 24 hours.

2. Do you know why service test is failed, I even try to add other service that doesn't have any relation fax server but it still fail.

Best Regards,

Chris

If you want to start actions for every new "bad" event, set the following settings
- report about all events (Event log test properties dialog)
- repeat: until status changes (Action properties dialog)
Do you know why service test is failed, I even try to add other service that doesn't have any relation fax server but it still fail.
What exactly means failed?
- test status (bad? unknown? no answer)?
- reply field value?

Yes, i have set the repeat until 30 times, but i haven't received any bad result since the first time i got bad result.

For the service test, the status is unknown and i don't set the reply status message on the notification.

Oh one more question, can we get every detail of the test we have?

let say a test already work for 3x times, is it possible to have every status details for the 1st, the 2nd, and the 3rd test?

thanks :D

You may check HostMonitor system log or Quick Log to check why action failed

Could you send screen shots (test and action settings) to support@ks-soft.net?

You may check test results (status, reply) in log file, Quick Log pane or Test Info dialog
