Not testing every minute

Post by BradHouser »

I have over one hundred different ping tests that should run every minute. The actual tests are running about every 10 minutes. Am I asking too much of the system? % CPU is under 10%, most of the time around 3-5%. There is plenty of memory and the network is doing fine. HM Monitor says it is at 5.34 tests per second, which seems low. I am running in a VMware virtual machine.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

Ping test interval is set to 1 min, however test runs every 10 min?
Could you please check if this test has defined Master test?
My be test has assigned Action like "change test interval"?
Have you checked Auditing tool (menu View -> Auditing tool)? Any errors?

No master test defined. No change test interval. No errors in auditing tool for this test.

Could you please enable private log for this test with Full mode using Test properties dialog?

OK. I will let it run for an hour.

Doesn't seem to have done anything

I am not sure if I set it up correctly. There is no private log file.

Here is the export of the test:

You set test interval to 10 min (600 sec), that's why test is performed every 10 min

Interesting. I have it set to one minute. Not 10. I would paste a screen shot if I could (Windows Server 2008 and Mac RDC). Is there some global multiplier variable somewhere? It appears all my one minute tests are showing Interval = 600.

For grins I tried changing the interval to 10 min, clicking apply, then changing it back to 1. The exported interval is now 60. This is nuts. I have over 500 tests that I no longer have confidence in.

You may simply create View with "Select items using expression" filter and expression like the following:
'%Interval_Min%'=='10'
Additionally, you may specify test method and enable "Include subfolders" option.
With this settings you may display all Ping test items with interval 10 min, then select them all and change interval for all selected items at once.

Are you using "Change test interval" action?
HostMonitor version?

Not using Change Test Interval. Version 9.90. Recently upgraded from version 8.5 (not sure of the 5).

Many, but not all, of the 1 minute tests are showing Interval=600 in the export file.

Many, but not all, of the 1 minute tests are showing Interval=600 in the export file.
Do you mean you open Test Properties dialog, verify test interval is 10 min, export test settings into text file and see 600 sec interval???
May we see your HML file with tests (you may send it to support@ks-soft.net)?

I am not finding the HML file. Is it the same as the "File>Export to Text File"?

No, this is file where do you store your test list.
Use Windows Search function or just check HostMonitor main window title, it shows path to the file
