Advice needed on checking Hostmonitor online status

We run hostmonitor in our office network so that it can check some internal hosts and services (in the office) and all that. It will only send an alert email if any test fails.

Sometimes, the hostmonitor host didn't reboot correctly (say in a maintenance case) that hostmonitor application was stopped and closed but the OS hanged there without restarting. Or if the office has a power outage which brings down its host and hostmonitor app too. Then it won't send any alert email until someone notices it is not running and sometimes we didn't realize after a few days especially around the holiday or weekends.

So basically, we are looking for a way to check if hostmonitor application is up and running reliably -- most likely from a high-available location like cloud or something.

Please advise me what is the common practice and what I can try.

There are several ways to monitor HostMonitor.
1. Use WatchDog application: http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/watchdog/index.htm
2. Use second HostMonitor using HM Monitor test: http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... #hmmonitor
3. Use send e-mail action on regular basis - if e-mail has not been received - there is some problem with HostMonitor
4. Use "HTTP request" action to send HTTP requests on regular basis and server side script (e.g. started by cron) that can send e-mail if no HTTP request were made for some period of time.
