RCC refuses connection

Post by bokusogu »

I upgraded Hostmon to ver. 5.64 (beta) so I can take advantage of RCC. I can test RCC on the host machine with the account I created. However, I cannot connect to the host machine remotely using RCC. I get a "connection failed" response each time. I can connect to hostmonitor using the same account configured via RCI on the web interface from the same computer.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you.

Ben.

What timeout do you use? What kind of connection do you use? LAN? Dial-UP?
Probably you just need to increase timeout?

Probably port 1054 is blocked by firewall (TCP filter)?
You may connect via web interface because browser uses port#80 that probably not blocked.

I just allowed port 1054 on both machines and I still get the same errors.

What exactly error do you see in the log (log that RCC shows right on screen)? "Connecting... Failed. Connection error"?
Could you try to connect to port 1054 using telnet or some port scanner (e.g. IP-Tools)?

When I telnet to the host via port 1054, it says connected, but RCC would not connect.

How do I give you VPN access without exposing the information to the rest of the world? Are you located in the U.S. where I can reach you via phone?

Our office located in Dover but we have vacation time, e.g. I am in Mexico right now 8)
Ok, lets try another experiment. Could you stop Web Service on HostMonitor system and start Web Service on that remote system (system where RCC cannot make connection). Now, can you make connection to HostMonitor using web interface?

No, I cannot access hostmonitor via the web interface. It says port in use when I try to enable the service. :D

You should not be working while on vacation :D I can wait till you get back.

Thanks,

Ben.

Port #80? System already running some web server? You may use any other port, e.g. 81
You will need to specify the same port when typing URL, e.g. http://127.0.0.1:81
You should not be working while on vacation I can wait till you get back.
Don't worry, its last day anyway.

I'm having the same problem. Was working yesterday today not.

I also have done as mentioned above (opened port thru firewall, etc.)
