Running KS-HostMonitor 1.78 as software (not as a service) on a Windows Server 2003 system. Currently HM is set to execute at system start (via the Startup folder).
Upon rebooting the server that HM resides on we must then log in to the server and actually execute HM (via double-clicking on a Desktop shortcut), even though HM starts via the Startup folder and will already be sitting in the SysTray at this time.
Attempting to run HM as a Service produces the same results.
Has this issue been fixed now in the latest version of HostMonitor? Did anyone else have similar issues with old versions of HostMonitor and now is no longer having this issue?
HostMon not actually functioning until opened.

Version 1.78? Are you sure? Probably you use version 7.78?smasters wrote:Running KS-HostMonitor 1.78 as software (not as a service) on a Windows Server 2003 system. Currently HM is set to execute at system start (via the Startup folder).
Do you see the icon in systray? You just have to click on icon in order to open HostMonitor GUI. We do not recommend to start several instances of HostMonitor at once.smasters wrote:Upon rebooting the server that HM resides on we must then log in to the server and actually execute HM (via double-clicking on a Desktop shortcut), even though HM starts via the Startup folder and will already be sitting in the SysTray at this time.
So, HostMonitor is running on remote server, and you access it using Terminal Service or Remote Desktop, right? In this case we recommend to use Remote Control Console (RCC): http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/rcc/index.htmsmasters wrote:Attempting to run HM as a Service produces the same results.
Please, read the following article for details: http://www.ks-soft.net/cgi-bin/phpBB/vi ... php?t=1100
In your circumstances we recommend to start HostMonitor as a service and access it using RCC, as decribed above.smasters wrote:Has this issue been fixed now in the latest version of HostMonitor? I am positive that it is version 1.78, (C) 2000-2002.
The icon is in the SysTray. The problem is that Host Monitor will not actually monitor anything until the SysTray icon is then clicked on and the HostMonitor GUI opened.
We just need to know if the latest version of HostMonitor actually WORKS on Startup, as we should not have to remotely connect to the server and click the icon, it should just work without us having to touch it.

Could you please explain how do you know it does not actually monitor?will not actually monitor
You do not receive some alerts when HostMonitor is started as service?
You do not see some reports?
You do not see hostmon.exe process that should be started on the server?
Sure, it works. Version 1.78 works as service as well.We just need to know if the latest version of HostMonitor actually WORKS on Startup,
"Remotely connect"? Do you use Terminal Service? Then you cannot interact with HostMonitors GUI when it is started as service. In other words, service works, it may monitor target systems and start alerts but you cannot see GUI. You can check log files, report files, etc.as we should not have to remotely connect to the server and click the icon
If you need to interact with GUI, you should stop service and start application, change settings and start service again.

If you update software, then you will be able to use Remote Control Console
