Performance Counter 'Process' not in list

Post by Kris »

Hiya!

I want to monitor a specific process on a remote server using the Performance Counter.
However, the "Process" entry is missing from the list for that server.
It goes from "Print Queue" directly to "Processor"...
Also, it takes quite long to build the list, much longer than other servers on the same network.

The target server is W2K8, firewall disabled, SNMP and WMI started, and other than this it's running fine.

Thanks!

Probably somebody disabled PerfProc.DLL?
Microsoft provides "Extensible Counter List" utility. This utility displays list of DLLs that are used to support Performance Counters, using the utility you may disable/enable specific DLLs.

Cheered too soon :(

I can select the right counter, but because its soooo slow it probably times out.
I get the "Error: The specified object was not found on the computer" message.

Have to sort that out first I guess

I think timeout would lead to different error message, at least we received "Error: The specified object was not found on the computer" message only if DLL is disabled or performance counters damaged

May be rebuild will help in your case?
