Upgrading Agents Sometimes Fails

Post by xcentric »

I recently upgraded from 9.06 to 9.12 Beta. But even before I have had trouble upgrading agents.

When using RMA manager to upgrade 24 agents, 8 of them failed (this time). Of the 8 failed are random os's. xp, 2003, 2008.

RMA manager succeeds in transfering the files to all 24 agents but the upgrade process is what fails on the 8. The upd file exists on each server but it seems like the batch files do not execute after transfer.
An individual subsequent upgrade does succeed however.

Looking at the batch files used to upgrade the agent seems trivial.
stop service
rename upd to exe
start service

Any clues as to what might be causing the upgrade process to hangup on the servers?

May be service could not be stopped for some reason?
HostMonitor was started and performed some tests while you updated RMA? or monitoring was stopped?

Is there a proper procedure for performing rma updates? Going by what you just said it appears that no matter what state hostmonitor is in, some rmas's may fail if they are performing tests.

Just want to know if there is a better way. It is a very minor annoyance.

Is there a proper procedure for performing rma updates?
Update Advanced Host Monitor package using Enterprise or Custom installation mode, then start RMA Manager and update RMA.
Procedure described in the manual
http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/rma- ... ow_upgrade

We will try to reproduce this problem and fix it....
