"Connect as" via Active RMA

Post by ebh »

hi,

I have an Active RMA, where I need to connect to a server, get diskspace, cpu and other tests.

How do I enter special credentials for this remote server?

I have tried both "connect as" and also the Connection manager (which works locally), but none of these seem to work. I cannot find anywhere in the Active RMA to enter special credentials?

What exactly means "none of these seem to work"? What is test status? Reply value?

HostMonitor version?
RMA version?
RMA started as service? application? Under admin or local system account?
Windows?
Service Pack?
UAC enabled? disabled?

Active and Passive RMA agent are using credentials, specified in "Connect as:" option and provided in Connection Manager.
RMA agent started as Service ?
If you want to perform tests like CPU Usage, Service, Process, UNC etc., RMA agent should be started under user account with local admin rights.
If RMA agent is started on Windows Vista+ system (Windows 7/2008/2012), we recommend to use BUILT-IN Administrator account to run RMA agent Service.

The RMA is installed, as a service using 'local system account' on a server on another site (site B). Some of the servers in question is not domain servers hence I cannot use an domain admin account.
The purpose is to test servers on the remote site (site B) which are on ip subnets which are not routed to the site where hostmon is installed (site A).

Hostmon latest (9.40) enterprise. Windows XP SP3 32bit.
RMA 4.02. RMA installed on Windows 2003 SP2 64bit.

But. It seems that it works now, I think it might have been connection manager issue.

I will report back if I experience any further problems.

Sorry for the inconveinience and thank you for your reply, Alex.

Some of the servers in question is not domain servers hence I cannot use an domain admin account.
I have recommended you to use local admin account (not domain admin) for pre Windows Vista OS or BUILT-IN Administrator (also local) account for Windows Vista+ systems.
Actually, during RMA agent installation, you should see the following information:
If you plan to use this agent to monitor single local system, RMA can be started under "local system" account.
Otherwise please note: "local system" account has limited permissions; some test methods will not be able to check remote systems (E.g. CPU Usage, Performance Counter, Service, Process, UNC and NT Event Log test methods).
Therefore we recommend to use administrator account.

The RMA is installed, as a service using 'local system account'
Use local system account only if you need RMA to check single local system. It cannot be used when RMA has to check remote systems.
