net-snmp memory test failure

Post by RoseAtSOD »

I am currently attempting to read the memTotalFree value from my RHEL server. OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.4.11.0

I have appended the net-snmp-MIB along with the ucd-snmp-mib and all the tests appear in the MIB Browser and no errors were received.

When I attempt to run the "Get" command in the MIB Browser I receive an error:
Cannont retrieve data. Unknown variable (OID)
You may use [GetNext] button to retrieve nearest valid OID

Of course I select the "GetNext" button and receive the following error:
Cannont retrieve data. Unknown variable (OID)

On the device I run the snmp get command fine and it returns the desired value.

I am unable to get any "Appended" OID tests to function. They all return the same errors.

Any of the default dod tests work fine though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SNMP version?
May be agent requires SNMP v2c or v3 for these counters? MIB Browser supports SNMP v1...
Have you tried Memory or SNMP Get test method (HostMonitor)? HostMonitor supports SNMP v1, v2c, v3

From HostMon (v9.40)
I perform the SNMP GET test. This is what I was setting up to begin with.
however, when I input the test OID and have it "Get value" it does not respond at all. no messages, pop ups or errors.

I do not have a "Memory" test for HostMon available.

Have you tried to change SNMP version (SNMP profile) on SNMP GET Test properties dialog?
Your device may require different SNMP version.

Looks like I had to user v3.

Working fine now.

v1. returned an error
I was using v2 which didn't return anything.
v3 is the way to go.

Thanks for your help.
