Determine the timeout for a specific test

Post by clerevan »

Dear KS-Soft,

I have a problem with one of my server and I have a lot of service in that server, because of the connectivity issue the VPN tunnel got busy in random occasion and the test from hostmonitor give me alot of false alarm because the connectivity is not stable.

I will give example of DNS test that keep failing even though I already set the timeout to be 30 sec, and I try to ping continuosly and find the connection only out less than 10 sec but the hostmonitor still send me notification. Do you have any method so that I can test that server effieciently?

this is the screenshot Image
I have set the timeout to 30 second but at the right side you see the ping only have timeout for less than 10 sec.

Of course tests like DNS will fail if you have unreliable network connection. If UDP packets lost, it does not matter what timeout did you set.
I would recommend to install Active RMA on target system

PS Active RMA probably the best option however there is other workarounds, e.g. start "repeat test" action after 1st, 2nd failure, start all other actions after 2nd or 3rd consecutive failure.
