NT Event Log test gives Access Denied

Post by Prometheus »

Hi all,

Using an NT Event Log test, I try to connect to one of my servers but I get the error "Cannot open event log. Access is denied". Most strange thing is, when I try to do the same using MMC > Event log to the same server I try to connect to from Hostmonitor, then it works and I can see every event.

Hostmonitor is running on Windows Server 2008 R2
Hostmonitor Test us using Vista+ API as compatibility
Remote server is also Windows Server 2008 R2
Servers are on the same network, and in the same domain

Also tried this solution, but it does not help my case:

I am sure it has to do with permissions, but i can figger out which ones. Can you pls help me with this?

Have you specified User account for NT Event Log test using Connect As or Connection Manager?
HostMonitor started as Service or Application? What user account is used for HostMonitor service?
Could you try adding this user account into "Performance Log Users" group?

Hi, thank you for the reply.

- Yes, I have specified an account in the test. The account specified is the domain administrator account.
- Hostmonitor is started as Application.
- I only got the KS Web Service and it is logged on as Local System
- I tried to add the domain admin user to the Performance Log Users group but no luck there.

Could you setup several additional test items for the same target system?
- CPU Usage test
- Service test
- Process test

What Status and Reply values do you get for these additional test items?

Every other test to the target server is going OK.

Sounds strange.
"NT Event Log" test uses just RPC service.
While CPU Usage test method uses RPC and other services.
May be you have specified different account credentials for these test items, or FQDN for CPU uages while hostname for NT Event Log test?
Could you please send test settings (CPU usage, Service and Process test) to us (suppor@ks-soft.net).
You may use menu "File" -> "Export to Text file" to save test settings into text file.

For the person who cares, the solution to this case was to use the Connection Manager for the the credentials to access the tested server.
