No perf counter after Windows Update

Post by UnOa »

Situation: Remote network with 2 servers;

Server1 has the RMA agent (version 3.15)
Windows Server 2003 for Small Business (w/ SP1)

Server2 no agent
Windows Server 2003 Standard (w/ SP1)

After performing Windows Update (32 updates on Server1, 20 on Server2), we get the following error:
RMA: 301 - Error: Unable to connect to specified machine or machine is offline.

This error is only for Server2 and ONLY for Performance Counters (CPU and Memory). Same tests on Server1 work fine (because it has the agent probably) and before the updates it worked fine on Server2...

HostMonitor version 5.70

Any clue anyone? I suppose it has something to do with a specific update, but which one??? TIA

Every months Microsoft updates brings some new problems. It looks like they hate us
Could you install RMA on Server2 as well?

Alex, that would probably solve my problem, but it would mean a great deal more work for me. (This is not the only situation in which this is a problem).

I was hoping there'd be an easier solution. Or perhaps anyone has any idea which patch/update caused this?

I would like to test this, but don't have the time for this now, maybe next year ;)

In next version of HostMonitor we want to implement WMI test. It looks like WMI much more reliable than Performance Counters.
IMHO Performance Counters subsystem is the buggiest part of Windows. In contrary to file system and winsock that are very reliable.

Yeah, I read about that somewhere.
Then I'll just wait for that....

Thanks!
