Unable to send SMS via USB modem
Unable to send SMS via USB modem
Hi,
I'm unable to send SMS via a USB modem.
It's running on COM3, I can send an SMS using the SMS modem software so I know it does work. But when trying via hostmonitor I get the following error
Sending...
Com port open .. Ok
Com port close .. Ok
Error: Cannot send message to "NUMBER". GSM modem error.
This is when selecting the modem type Wavecom Fasttrack and Siemens TC35
With the other modem types I get the following
Error: Format is not supported by WaveCom
Sending...
Com port open .. Ok
Com port close .. Ok
Error: Cannot send message to "NUMBER". GSM modem error.
I'm assuming I have to put the Initialisation String in for the Modem were PIN is in the GSM setting’s, as the modem does not require a PIN like a mobile does?
I'm using a z-text sms modem and Hostmonitor 6.10 (but looking to upgrade soon to 6.42)
All help with this will be gratefully received!!
Cheers Darren

Re: Unable to send SMS via USB modem
There is new version of KSGsmXLib.ocx.dazhallt5 wrote:Error: Cannot send message to "NUMBER". GSM modem error.
http://www.ks-soft.net/download/ksgsmxlib.zip
It shows us the detailed error description. Please, download it and copy to HostMonitor folder. Please note: you should stop
HosMonitor instance before copying.
What exact options have you specified in Oprions > GSM tab? Baud rate? Modem Type? Mode?
Actually, SIM card usually requires PIN code, not modem. If you do not know the Pin code for the SIM card, please type 1111dazhallt5 wrote:I'm assuming I have to put the Initialisation String in for the Modem were PIN is in the GSM setting’s, as the modem does not require a PIN like a mobile does?

Hi Max,
I have downloaded the KSGsmXLib.ocx and applied it i have set the SMS Log to 'Detailed tech info' please see below error description

The options I have selected on the GSM tab are as follows

Baud Rate = 19200 - (I left this as default was working with nokie 6210)
Modem Type = Wavecom fasttrack (not sure what to use)
mode = Text
PIN = 1111 (was set to 'ATE0')
service center = 147017094009 (BT service center - number used by SMS modem software.)
How this info can help us out a little more.
Cheers Darren

Please verify you really applied new KSGsmXLib.ocx from the KSGsmXLib.zip archieve. Probably, file had been locked and it was not overwritten. As I mentions above, new KSGsmXLib.ocx has to show us extended error description.dazhallt5 wrote:I have downloaded the KSGsmXLib.ocx and applied it i have set the SMS Log to 'Detailed tech info' please see below error description

I would suggest you to setup Baud Rate as 9600 and Mode as PDU. It might help. Actually, there was a bug in version 6.10. If you are unable to apply new KSGsmXLib.ocx, you should specify Baud Rate as 9600 for both Primary GSM modem and for the Backup GSM modem.dazhallt5 wrote:The options I have selected on the GSM tab are as follows

We did not test Z-Text modem with our software, but as I know, Z-Text modem uses GSM protocol, so everything should work fine.

Hi Max,
i have just upgraded to 6.42. Then tried again. i'm now getting the following
Sending...
Com port open .. Ok
Com port close .. Ok
Error: Cannot send message to 'number'. GSM modem error. No reply on AT command: ATE1
Switched to Backup account
Com port open .. Ok
Com port close .. Ok
Error: Cannot send message to 'number'. GSM modem error. No reply on AT command: ATE1
it must the AT command, i know the z-text modem need to use the command ATE0 to work. Can i change this with in Hostmonitor?
Cheers Darren

Have you specified Baud Rate as 9600? This value is recommended for the Z-Text modem.dazhallt5 wrote:Error: Cannot send message to 'number'. GSM modem error. No reply on AT command: ATE1[/i][/b]
It does not matter. Hostmonitor perform a check the modem with different AT commands before sending SMS. Probably, port is locked by another program? As you know, VCP(Virtual COM Port ) cannot be shared with another application. Could you try to connect to the modem using standar windows HyperTerminal program? Please, specifydazhallt5 wrote:it must the AT command, i know the z-text modem need to use the command ATE0 to work. Can i change this with in Hostmonitor?
the following values in Com3 properties window:
Bits per second : 9600
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control : None
If connected, try to type following commands in turn:
ATE0
ATE1
AT+CGMI
AT+CMGF=0

Z-text USB Modem
The Z-text USB SMS modem only supports 2400 as a baud Rate (8 N 1)
Hi Max
I tested Hypertermial at 9600 and i was getting no joy.. BUT in the interim also have also email z-text i have just had this reply.
ATE0
OK
ATE1
OK
AT+CGMI
ERROR
AT+CMGF=0
OK
I then tested sending a test sms with the baud rate = 2400
with primary set as text and backup PDU and get the following using the same modem type wavecom fasttrack
Sending...
Com port open .. Ok
Com port close .. Ok
Error: Cannot send message to 'Number'. GSM modem error. ERROR was returned on AT command: AT+WIND=12
Switched to Primary account
Com port open .. Ok
Com port close .. Ok

so i tested at 2400 8n1 and got the followingI have had a quick look at the forum, and the most probable cause is that the modem only supports 2400 8N 1. The modem supports text and PDU mode.

Interesting. Such command has to return manufacturer identification.dazhallt5 wrote:AT+CGMI

AT+WIND commant is only supported by Wavecom modems.dazhallt5 wrote:Error: Cannot send message to 'Number'. GSM modem error. ERROR was returned on AT command: AT+WIND=12

Re: Z-text USB Modem
Paul, could you assist us with our unvestigation? Unfortunatelly, we do not have Z-text USB SMS modem in our environment, so we have never tested it. Could you provide a link to some technical information regarding Z-text USB SMS modem? As I understand, you act on behalf of Z-Text modem manufacturer, right?SMSPaul wrote:The Z-text USB SMS modem only supports 2400 as a baud Rate (8 N 1)

I work for NTS Telecom, who designed the modem.
Just looking into the AT+CGMI issuie, and will post back here.
More info at www.ntstelecom.co.uk/technical.htm
Contact me via our website for a sample modem.
Paul
According to the GSM 07.07 specification, the AT+CGMI command is optional. However it has been added to the lastest beta release, along with a dummy AT+CPIN command to improve compatibility ( and a few others as well ).
This version isn't on general release yet, as we want to do some more testing to make sure that nothing has been broken. It can be obtained on request, just send an email.
FYI, I am the software writer for this product.

We have sent Darren new firmware, please email with FAO:Paul from our website for more info.KS-Soft Europe wrote:Thank you, Paul. Thank you, Nigel.
I have downloaded Z-textSMSATCommandSet.pdf from your site. It seems everything should work fine.
I am looking foward to hearing from Darren.
Darren, could you provide Remote Desktop or VNC access to the system, where HostMonitor is running?

Max
