Hi,

I have downloaded and I'm testing your software at work and I must say it's the best I have seen in a loong time. But as I started showing it to my friends they all got a little worried.

When they saw the 20 test's that I had set up they started talking about how much traffic this must generate on the network and this is no good. I can't belive that this software would bug down the network. Can someone help me come up with a good answer to this?

Help

Set up a performance Counter and take a look at the traffic. It ain't much

Everything depends on settings. Just for example:
1) You have standard 100Mbit network and setup HostMonitor to perform 20 ping tests every 5 min using 32 bytes packet size (default size). How much HM will generate traffic? Let see: 20*32*2/(100*1024*1024/8*60*5)*100=0.0003255% of bandwidth (about 1/5000000 bandwidth) Is that a problem for network? Of course not at all.
2) You have network based on slow dial-up connection (33,600) and setup HM to perform 20 ping tests every 30 sec using 2K packet size. How much HM will generate traffic in this case? Let see: 20*2048*2/(33600/9*30)*100=73% of bandwidth. That is problem.
So, everything is up to you, use reasonable settings regarding your network.

Alex

If a monitoring program 'stuffs up the network', they got a bigger problem than just the monitoring program.

The network guys need a redesign of their network!

I'm BOTH the network and the web guy where i am, and I'll agree with Marcus. If your web guys are whining, they've got bigger problems.
