I am trying to setup a test daily to check throughput across a WAN
I want to use a FTP put and check the throughput metrics from the results or maybe run IPERF and pull the output from that app - I have not been very sucessful as yet.

I would recommend you to try "Traffic Monitor" test method. http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... trafficmon
"URL" test method has a limited support of the "FTP" protocol - it supports only "Get" method, so you cannot use "URL" test method to put something via ftp.
Regarding IPERF - do you mean this command line utility: http://dast.nlanr.net/Projects/Iperf/
I think, you can use "Shell Script" test method to start IPERF utility and parse its output. http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... m#chkShell
