Do not understand why you got angry. Everything is up to our policy. Quote: http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/regm ... reeupdates
=================================
After initial purchase of any license you are eligible to update your software at no cost for 6 or 12 months. Additionally, after free updates period expires, you will be eligible for any new releases and updates at special low prices.
=================================

Actually, if version 7.78 suits your needs, you may use it eternally. If your free updates period expired and you would like to upgrade to the newest version, you should pay special discounted price (50%).

Actually, it depends on your license. "Lite" and "Standard" licenses grant you 6 months free updates period, while "Professional" and "Enterprise" license allow you to upgrade the software at no cost for 12 months:
http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/regmon.htm#newprice

Enterprise license is also available with "Lifetime updates" option at $1599. A holder of such license is eligible for ALL future updates AT NO COST. Any update for every component of this software, including additional tools and/or utilities that may be added to the Advanced Host Monitor Enterprise package in the future will be available for you at NO COST. http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/regmon.htm#lifetime

Please, send your Registration Name and/or Order ID to sales@ks-soft.net and we will provide you detailed information about your license status.

Max

Normally HostMonitor should check your registration codes and warn you when you need new codes BEFORE actual update, unless you have disabled "Update check" option that is located on Misc page in the Options dialog. In such case you may use menu Help->Update check to verify license before update.

How do I downgrade to a previous version?

Post by bokusogu »

I am in the same boat. There should be a warning about the upgrade and license. I want to downgrade from version 8. How do I do this without lossing my configuration settings?

You may use menu "Help" -> "Update check" item. Also you may enable "Check for updates at www.ks-soft.net every 3rd night" option, located in "Options" -> "Miscellaneous" tab -> "Update Check" area. This option tells HostMonitor to check for software updates at http://www.ks-soft.net/ every 3rd night. If new version detected, HostMonitor will inform logged in operator (next morning). HostMonitor also checks your license and informs operator about validity of the registration code for this new version.

When you upgrade HostMonitor, it creates backup copy of HML file using ~HM extension, and copy of *.LST files using ~LS extension.
So, you may install your old version over 8.0 and restore previous HML (.~HM -> .HML) and .LST (.~LS -> .LST) files in HostMonitor folder.

We recommend to backup all *.hml, *.lst and *.ini files from HostMonitor folder periodically. Just in case. Especially before upgrade.
If you had a backup, you just need to install old version over 8.0 and copy all *.hml, *.lst and *.ini files from backup.

Not every file format was changed. If you don't have such file, then probably you don't need it.
If you receive some error, then please tell us what exactly is the problem. What exactly error message do you see? What exactly version of HostMonitor do you use and what version do you want to use

PS
"Make backup copy" is common rule for every admin (and even for end user). What if your hard drive crashes tomorrow? You don't have backup???

Downgrade problems

Post by bokusogu »

I was using 7.78 then I carelessly upgraded to 8.1 beta. I want to go back to 7.78. I have successfully gone back to 7.78, but Web Services keeps reporting "Authorization Failed: Unacceptable IP adress"

Then simply check user profiles (HostMonitor menu User -> Operators)
and add address of the system where Web Service is running into list

Yes, just make sure you have saved recent changes in HML file. If you do not use "autosave" option then use menu File->Save
