Allow for Multiple remote Agents for test or sites

Post by davidc »

Here's the setup:

We have multiple sites connected to the internet with more than one internet provider and therefore there are multiple ways to access our sites. What we would like to see a way to setup a RMA off each of the connections to accomplish the following:

1. Verify that each path is up. This could be accomplished by looking at individual interfaces on the routers, but I would prefer to have verification.
2. Test would not need to be configured multiple times. Under the present setup (5.6x beta), I have two define each test under both agents and this duplication increase the chance of error.
3. As long as the "Primary" RMA is running there is no need to run the same test from other RMA.

So, what exactly do you need? Some option like "Backup agent" that can be specified for each "primary" agent? HostMonitor should use that "backup agent" every time "primary" agent returns "bad" status for the test?
I think we implement "backup agent" option, but HostMonitor will use backup agent only if primary agent does not respond at all.

Yes, a backup agent is exactly what I am looking for. From a testing standpoint, it probably should check the status of the primary agent and then if it is running use it. If the primary agent is not available, it should use the remote agent for a period of time (user specified) and have a method of notification that the primary agent is down.

Ideally the software should be smart enough to determine it is down for one test and then it would not be available for others during the specified period.
