HML file does not contain all necessary information. If you want to backup HostMonitor configuration, we recommend to backup all *.hml, *.lst and *.ini files at once. If you need to restore backed up configuration, you just should copy all *.hml, *.lst and *.ini from backup location.
Regarding license problem. After initial purchase of any license you are eligible to update your software at no cost for 6 or 12 months. Looks like your free updates period has expired.
Actually, it's a pitty you rolled-back old *.hml file. Now all relations between HML and *.lst files are completely broken...
Could you send all your *.hml, *.lst and *.ini files to support@ks-soft.net
We will try to restore your files...
And please, provide HostMonitor version you utilized before update.
Regards,
Max

Good! Glad to hear that.megasound wrote:i restored it from the last night backup tape ...so we are in business again...

No, licensing model remains the same: http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/regmon.htm#newpricemegasound wrote:question i have is ...whats happening to the license model ?
As I wrote in previous letter, after initial purchase of any license you are eligible to update your software at no cost for 6 or 12 months (Lite and Standard - 6 months; Professional and Enterprise - 12 months). It means during free updates period you may upgrade to the newest version at no cost. After free updates period expires, you may either use your current version for ages or purchase new license with 50% discount, upgrade to the newest vesion and get new 6 or 12 months free update period again. If you are holder of license with LifeTime updates option and would like to upgrade to the newest version, we just issue new registration codes for you at no cost.megasound wrote:will all HM licenses break ?...do we really need to buy a new license ?
Before update, you may check your license using menu "Help" -> "Update Check". Or enable "Check for updates every third night" option in "Options" -> "Miscellaneous" -> "Update check" area. This option tells HostMonitor to check for software updates at http://www.ks-soft.net/ every 3rd night. If new version detected, HostMonitor will inform logged in operator (next morning). HostMonitor also checks your license and informs operator about validity of the registration code for this new version.

Max is right
1) If your "free updates" term has been expired, this does not mean "free updates" term expired for other customers
2) Normally HostMonitor checks for updates and verifies your license against new version BEFORE update (every 3rd night). However I should say this will not work for version 7.90 or 7.95. These versions are "unofficial" test-only versions, you will not find any information about such software on our web site (only this forum). As we said "Not recommended for production monitoring but should be interesting for testing"
3) When you make backup, please store all configuration files, not just HML file. For details you may check the following part of the manual

4) I would not say "corrupted". Files was converted to new format that is not supported by old version. BTW: When HostMonitor converts some files (e.g. .HML file with tests) it creates backup copy using .~HM extension. You may rename it back to .HML and use with previous version of HostMonitor.so i rolled-back my old version ( 7.78 ) and my hml is totally corrupted...even the copy i made before...
5) If you are not sure what kind of license do you have and when your "free updates" term expires, you may send request to sales@ks-soft.net. Please provide your registration name and/or order numberdo we really need to buy a new license ?
