1) How exactly do you want to update RMA? Do you want to update RMA on remote system using RMA Manager? Do you want to update RMA on remote system manually (e.g. using Windows Explorer)? Update RMA on local system?
2) If you want to update RMA on remote system using RMA Manager, you cannot exit (terminate) RMA. If you terminate agent, what application will accept connection and initiate transfer?

What exactly application shows you this error? RMA Manager? I assume source rma.exe is locked by some process. May be your antivirus?

Hi,

i use the RMA Manager to update passive RMA which is installed as service. I receive this error when passive RMA is running.

it is able to copy the new rma in a temponary folder with a batch-script that stops and replace the rma?

Its not a problem with RMA that is running on remote system. When you update RMA on remote system using RMA Manager, RMA creates temp file, then stops service, replaces the file and starts service.
I think this problem is related to your local system where HostMonitor, RMA and RMA Manager are installed by setup program.

C:\Program Files\HostMonitor7\RMA-Win\rma.exe - is your local system, right? Have you started RMA on local system as well? Normally this should not be a problem because RMA Manager opens file for reading however lets try to stop RMA on local system or try to make a copy then use copy for upgrading procedure.

i dont have access to the rma.exe if this is running. (eg. as service) so it is not able to copy this file. only if i have stopped the service so i can move / delete the file.

Of course you cannot delete exe file while service is started. However normally you should be able to copy that file, even if service is running.
What Windows do you use? Service Pack? Any antivirus software?

Anyway, if you really need to run RMA on local system as well, just make a copy of the file.

i use rma on win 2k3 (SP1 and SP2) with symantec antivirus (corp. edition)

the RMA Manager want to replace the rma.exe. but this does not work while rma.exe is running. so the rma updater need to stop the service for replacing files. So i think the Update-Script does not work correct.

Thank you. We will check this issue on similar system.

RMA stops the service by itself when new code is received from RMA Manager. Error that you have received informs you about problem related to the source!! RMA Manager cannot open rma.exe file for reading.

1) Do you really need to run agent on the same system where HostMonitor and RMA Manager is installed?
2) As I said you may easily make a copy of the agent (simply copy rma.exe into different folder) and use this copy for upgrading procedure.

Unless I misunderstand the problem. In such case please describe what exactly is going on. You may send screen shots to support@ks-soft.net

PS
If you are using Advanced Host Monitor version 8.00+, you may download this update: www.ks-soft.net/download/rman308.zip
This version of RMA Manager should be able to read rma.exe even if agent is started as service on Windows 2003+
On the other hand, you always can create copy of rma.exe and use this copy for upgrades
