Ping %folder% returns Unknown host suddenly

Post by CX-FR »

Hi,

I have a setup of 50-60 servers and have put tests in folders representing the DNS-name of that specific server.
Most servers have similar setup so I created a template used when deploying new.
As a base test (all other tests in the folder is depending on it) I use a simple 'ping %folder%'
I have several own variables in the root folder and the folders below inherit.

This morning I needed to trim a test and setup a new variable called fvar_freepte_warn in the root folder.
When I click OK all ping tests immediately turned yellow with the Unknown Host result!
%folder% still returns correct value in description, comment etc
I removed the variable from root, restarted service, created a new ping %folder% test but still no luck. Pinging hostnames work, so its not DNS.

Please, any hints on what to look for? 90% of my about 300 tests are not functioning which leaves me blind :(

I installed 8.84 last week, but it's the same in 8.72.

Kind regards,
Fredrik R

Update
It's not only Ping, but many(most?) tests that doesn't take %folder% anymore

Sorry, there is bug in version 8.84 :(
If you are using this version, please apply patch www.ks-soft.net/download/hm885c.zip
unzip file and replace hostmon.exe and rcc.exe modules.
Then I think you should change some folder variable so HostMonitor will resolve variables again...

Thank you Alex. that did the trick.

I copied over the files in the zip, then created a variable in root and refreshed all tests, and they came back online.

Thanks for the fix, but why no to put it up as the latest for download? Why to have buggy version available for the download?

I did update to 8.84 two days ago and spent few hours with this problem to figure out that there is a new release dated more than 10 days ago.

Sorry for this :-(
Everyday we tried to fix some other issues, that's why we delayed new version again and again. We waste a lot of time with MySQL ODBC drivers but did not find solution that can fix all problems. Should release new version this Friday or next Monday...
