Error: Cannot release COM port on paging

Post by TaxingIT »

We are currently running Host Monitor version 8.86 with lifetime enterprise for our RC clients (over 200) and server.

The server is running Windows Server 2003 Standard SP2.

When a page is sent, this is what we are seeing:

Log (Port: COM1, Baud rate: 4800, Init string: ATZ~, Dial string: )

Initializing Modem
Dialing 1234567
Connected
Sending Password
Password Accepted
Sending Msg 1 Block 1
Sending Msg 1 Block 2
Sending Msg 1 Block 3
Disconnecting
Successful - Completed: 1 of 1
Error: Cannot release COM port

What causes the Error: Cannot release COM port? It periodically will stop Host Monitor from being able to page all together and will force us to reboot the system to resolve the issue. It also seems to cause Host Monitor to have a soft pause and temporarily hang shortly after this error happens.

We already have FixedPagingPort=COM1 in the hostmon.ini file.

What causes the Error: Cannot release COM port?
Its really hard to investigate such problems, especially when we cannot reproduce it on our systems.
May be problem caused by device driver...
