HMS script dependencies

Post by moshea »

Is it possible to set master/dependent tests through a HMS script?

e.g. all tests in a folder to be dependent on a ping test being "alive" status

Any other suggestions for a dependency type schema?
Thanks,
Mark.

Why you cannot set Master test manually? You need to change it based on some test results?

I can set it manually, but was hoping to automate it......as I have a lot of hosts being monitored.

Is there an opportunity of setting the alert profile to alert only when a master test is UP.
And if so, could that be scripted?

Are you using templates?

Also, Replicator can be useful for initial setup

Add "good" action into profile, assign profile to master test. That's it.
HostMonitor will not start dependant tests and actions unless you marked "Synchronize status&alerts" option
And if so, could that be scripted?
What exactly should be scripted?
If you setup a lot of new tests, I don't see why do you need such HM script command. I think you need Templates or Replicator or your own script that will create text file for import.

If you want to change a lot of existing tests, you may select set of tests (if such tests located in different folders, you may use Views), click Edit and change action profile for all test items at once.
If templates and Test Properties dialog cannot help for some "bulk" changes, then Export/Import option usually helps.

If this does not work for you, we can add HM Script command for action profile switch. We just want to understand why exactly do you need this option. So far we do not understand
