Can Active RMA send alerts when lost connection with host?

Post by IT REG »

Hi
I am new with Hostmonitor configuration....

I have a server located in data center with the hostmonitor installed. The Active RMA is installed in a PC located in my office. When the hostmonitor server down or hang, no alert emails will be sent out. After change some settings with RMA, the agent will play an alert sound when it has lost connection with the host, so that we can aware the issue. But during non-office hours, it is still an issue that no one can hear the RMA ring........ :o

Is there any way i can do to make the Active RMA send alert emails when it lost connection with the master?

Many thanks...

Its not RMA job to monitor HostMonitor.
There is another application for this - WatchDog
http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/watchdog/index.htm

Also, 2nd instance of HostMonitor may check 1st copy

Thanks for the quick reply!!!

I will use WatchDog. I have copied the requied three files to my RMA machine and setup the watchdog account in the host.

In the Connection parameters panel, after typing "Host", "Login" and "Password", it prompt a error that "HostMonitor respose: Authorization failed. Unacceptable IP address x.x.x.x[RMA IP])

I will chekc my Firewall settings first. Please correct me if my direction is wrong~

Many thanks!! :P :P :P

No additional software/utilities are required.
You may follow these steps:
1. Setup SMTP profile (for sending e-mail) using menu Options -> Mailer settings:
http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... htm#Mailer

2. Add new or use existing Action profile (menu Profiles -> Action profiles) and add corresponding "Good" and "Bad" Send-e-mail actions (specify sender, recepients, e-mail subject and e-mail template):
http://www.ks-soft.net/hostmon.eng/mfra ... m#actEMail

3. Open test properties dialog, and select newly created action profile in Alert section.

If action is not triggering, we recommend to read the following article:

Looks like you were asking about WatchDog e-mail alert.
And you are right, WatchDog requires sendmail.exe utility for sending e-mail alerts.
It can be downloaded at:

Thanks KS-Soft. Really appriciate your patient answers.

Seems i have a lot of questions... hope it would be my last one...

I have download the WatchDog and config the smtp and message details. Test with SendMail.exe, it works fine. But how can i set it up with WatchDog?

In the Action Properties panel, a Command line is required to call that EXE. But I have no idea how to write that......Any suggestions? And would you please kindly offer an example?

Thanks....

Open WatchDog menu Options, double click on "Execute external program" Action and specify command line. It can be different, depending on location of sendmail.exe.

E.g.
d:\utilities\sendmail.exe To=support2@company.com "Subject=[%DateTime%] %HostName% is Dead" StartAfterLoad

It works!! Thanks.

=[%DateTime%] %HostName% cannot be detected automatically but I have manually add the hostname into the subject.

Thanks again for your kindly help.
