I installed HostMon as a service and it hangs constantly while attempting to send e-mail notifications.
If I start hostmon as a regular application, it works fine and sends mail without hanging. However, I do get error 10061 during the e-mail sending process. What seems to be the matter.
Thank you in advance.

I tested monitor on several XP systems, cannot reproduce this problem. Do you use some personal firewall? Or may be its not "send e-mail" action is reason for the problem. Do you use ODBC logging to MS SQL or Sybase database? Or "SQL Query" action? If yes, what version of client software do you use?

I am not using any of the databases you referenced. I am using regular Hostmon log. I do not have any personal firewalls, but we are using vpn, and our vpn provider does have firewall installed at their end. The curious fact is hostmon works flawlessly if started as an executable application.

Sorry, I don't know what we can do. Sometimes we are able to fix problem even if we cannot reproduce the problem on our systems. But not in your case..

Thanks for your efforts. By the way, I downloaded and installed ver 3.56 with the same results. I will run it as an executable for now.
All in all, it is still a very good software.

u in advance.
Do you need to login to you mail server before you can use smtp functionality?

And / or are you using the system account for the service to start with?

No. I do not have to login to my mail server before using the smtp functionality.
The service starts with a local system account that allows interaction with the desktop.

But I hope you have assigned some user account (e.g. administrator) on Service page in the Options dialog?

No, I did not do so. Do I have to have such an account?
