Hi,
Is it possible for Hostmon to monitor using the NRPE protocol?
We are testing Baruwa(spamfilter linuxdist) that has some monitoring support built in using NRPE and it would be nice if I could somehow use that in Hostmon.
I don´t know anything at all about this protocol other then what Google tells me. And I suppose we could install SNMP on the box, but we would prefer not to mess with the dist if possible.
A link to what I am talking about:
https://www.baruwa.com/docs/guide/admin/monitoring.html
Any support for NRPE protocol?
NRPE - Nagios Remote Plugin Executor?
As I understand this protocol is used by Nagios monitoring software. Its not Linux standard protocol, this protocol created and used by Nagios. This means you need to install Nagios and some remote agent (probably something similar to our RMA agent).
Nagios is open source software but I don't think developers will be happy if 3rd party monitoring software (HostMonitor) will use Nagios agent.
In other words:
If you want to use Nagios monitoring software, you install Nagios and Nagios agent.
If you want to use HostMonitor, install HostMonitor and RMA agent for Linux.
Also, you may perform some tests using SSH test method or install RMA for Linux...
Regards
Alex

Well, if you want to use NRPE you need to install 3rd party software (already installed?). While SNMP supported by standard Linux package (Baruwa is actually CentOS?).And I suppose we could install SNMP on the box, but we would prefer not to mess with the dist if possible.

1) I am not sure we can use this protocol, have to read license agreements...
2) I think Nagios may change it at any time for new version of the software;
3) I think not many people need such option - if somebody uses NRPE, this means he uses Nagios, then he does not need HostMonitor. So we will waste time for useless option
